牛是布鲁氏菌的易感动物，患病的奶牛可通过牛奶排菌，如果有人食用了未经消毒的带菌牛奶，就可能感染布鲁氏菌病。有人对临床采集的牛奶样品进行了检测实验，也从牛奶中检测到了布鲁氏菌，证实患病牛产的奶确实可能带有布鲁氏菌。
临床上一旦检测出布鲁氏菌病的奶牛将被扑杀，奶牛尸体及其胎儿、胎衣、排泄物采取深埋、化制或焚烧，扑杀前或隔离饲养期间产生的乳，都集中收集并进行高温等无害化处理。而发现有布鲁氏菌病的农场也将暂时封场，这期间奶牛的奶不会上市，只有连续检疫正常后才会准许正常供奶。因此通常情况下，市场上销售的牛奶都是健康奶，而且经过消毒，不会传染布鲁氏菌病。
不过，有的人一味追求“未经加工的原生态牛奶”，觉得“营养好、风味佳”，用这样的奶制成的“*、无添加”的奶制品也对许多人很多吸引力。从理论上说，如果养殖条件好，卫生设施完善，刚刚挤出的“生奶”倒也没有多大危险。但如果奶牛被布鲁氏菌感染致病，那么它们的奶也就会被污染。如果顾客购买食用了这种患病牛的奶，就有可能感染布鲁氏菌病。
利福平胶囊药物属于抗结核的药物。许多结核病患者认为服用利福平不能喝牛奶，事实上这是一种误解。
结核病患病通常需要加强营养，补充蛋白质，而牛奶中富含人体所必需的蛋白质、微量元素等，喝牛奶是一个不错的选择，因此在肺结核治疗期间*可以喝牛奶。
不过，由于利福平类药极易与食物中的蛋白质结合而降低药效。有研究表明，进食后服用该药，可使药物的吸收减少30%，因此建议在空腹时服用。牛奶属于高蛋白食物，一般在服利福平前后0.5-1小时之内不喝牛奶，不要使二者在胃中相遇，否则会影响药物的吸收。
