What is an LVDT displacement sensor?
LVDT stands for Linear Variable Differential Transformer. The moving part of the LVDT is connected to the mandrel. Inside the LVDT body is a primary coil (at the center) and two secondary coils (at both ends). The position of the core changes the inductance of the two secondary coils. External or internal electronics then convert this signal to a DC output that is proportional to the core position. Because the core does not touch the coil, there is no contact, so the output has infinite resolution.
