高压锅炉给水泵实际上属于多级泵，锅炉给水泵工作原理相当于把几个叶轮组装在一根泵轴上串联起来工作，泵轴上叶轮的数量也就是属于表示几级离心泵，例如一个叶轮的扬程是10米那么泵轴上面加装5个叶轮相当于此时扬程可达50米，锅炉给水运行时，水由泵进口被吸入，然后依次由*个叶轮压入到一个叶轮，每经过一个叶轮，压力就会增加一倍，所以通畅被称为高压锅炉给水泵。
