The Universal Material Tester shall be supplied as equipment with have dynamometer, dial gauge with measuring range and appropriate graduations and all relevant components that would make the Tester useful for training students in mechanical engineering. The equipment should have a maximum test force of 20kN and maximum stroke of 45mm, with space available for specimens, in addition to tensile and hardness specimens. The material tester should be a benchtop unit capable of providing students with possible acquisition and evaluation of data using a PC. It should also be possible to perform additional bending, shearing, cupping and compressive testing.

The equipment should also be supplied with balancing mass radius adjustment range of 30 – 70mm on metric linear scale and have angular scale resolution of 1 degree. Ultimately the equipment should be able to facilitate the training of students about static and dynamic balancing, force polygons, couple polygons and vectors. It should be supplied with a comprehensive instruction manual.

·   The Francis turbine should have the turbine output of at least 4.5 HP and the turbine runner and guide vanes. The turbine body should be made of cast iron. The equipment should be supplied with tanks made of 3mm thick sheet with fiber glass lining and with reinforced angles. The Pelton Wheel Turbine should be a tangential flow impulse turbine, which enables water to strike the buckets along the tangent of the runner, thus creating kinetic energy at the inlet of the turbine. The pressure at the inlet and outlet of the turbine should be atmospheric. This turbine is used for high heads.

At 1 kW power output, the equipment should be able to discharge approximately 400l/minute. It should have tanks, a nozzle and spear made of stainless steel with a rope-brake type dynamometer. The equipment should also have sump tank to hold at least 200 litres and water circulation should be possible using a centrifugal pump with capacity of 5 HP on 3-Phase at a maximum of 3000rpm. It should be supplied with a comprehensive instruction manual.

This should allow the equipment to perform convective heat transfer; to indicate air temperature, heater temperature and heating power through the display and control unit. The Miniature Steam Power Plant should have a gas fired model steam boiler, with operating pressure of 4 bar and design pressure of 6.0 bar and it should be made out of copper; a boiler feed pump, with manual / electric pressure of at least 7 bar; a feed water tank; a steam turbine with a single rotor stage model steam turbine of diameter 75 mm; a DC generator which should be coupled to the turbine by a driving belt, with resistive load bank of 4 lamp bulbs; a condenser unit with shell and tube atmospheric type condenser. The equipment should be able to collect condensation by metal beaker, with minimum cooling water flow rate of 0.5 litres/minute.
